History Leader: Mrs Anderson
What do we want our children to achieve from our History curriculum?
We have developed an exciting history curriculum which enables children to understand the past through personal, local and global dimensions. We have selected topics carefully to ensure that children can make relevant links between past events, and understand the impact on their local area too. Children will gain an understanding of how the past influenced the present and continues to do so. We will nurture their curiosity to enable them to start making connections between periods. Children will use critical thinking and analysis skills to scrutinise information carefully. This learning will help children to empathise with people's lived experiences, both past and present.
History Intent
How do we ensure that this happens?
In history, our topics are taught using three different modes of learning to ensure that children develop specific disciplinary skills, alognside content knowledge.
Threads of Learning:
Our carefully selected topics are connected by threads of learning to ensure a cohesive and progressive approach to teaching and learning. They are woven throughout our History curriculum, so that links in learning are referred to explicitly during the children's learning journey.
The threads of learning are:
- Invasion and Conflict
- Discovery and Invention
- Local History
- Key Figures
- Society
- Industry
- Religion
- Landmarks
