Music Lead: Mrs Johnston
What do we want our children to achieve from our Music curriculum?
We want our children to leave primary school as confident, expressive and enthusiastic musicians who enjoy making music and understand its importance in their lives and in the wider world. They will understand and use key musical elements including pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamic, timbre, texture and structure. Through performance they will sing accurately and sing with expression showing that they have the confidence, resilience and pride to perform. We want our children to develop opinions about a wide range of high quality music from a range of genres, cultures and historical periods.
How do we ensure that this happens?
Throughout EYFS, KS1 and KS2, children are taught lessons that include a range of listening, singing, performing, composing and appraising. They listen to a broad range of music. Music vocabulary is explicitly taught so that children can discuss music confidently. We use the Charanga music scheme of work to ensure that our music curriculum is progressive and well-structured. Throughout their time in Broomhill Primary School, they are given the opportunity to perform to others through plays, assemblies and Key Stage performances.
